The way home

The way home through Germany was without problems and with a stunning scenery, especially from Beckingen to Trier. Also to drive 250 km/h on the three lane highways north of Hamburg, with a minimum speed of 120 km/h was a joy. Only thing that was a bit scary was hitting a full garbage bag at 210 km/h towards Puttgarten north of Lubeck. I hadn't even the time to react, but nothing happened.

Four M5 and one M3 fueling up. At 110 DM (70 USD) in fuel per car we should have done this trip in USA or in OPEC countries. Some people were quite impressed when we turned up at gas stations. One question was "Wie schnell als Porsche?"

The only problem occurred on the way home through Sweden. We split up in northern Germany at Friday night in, because of different destinations. I started from the south of Sweden and was heading towards Stockholm on Saturday evening. After had driven over 4000 km of unrestricted Autobahn in Germany at speeds sometimes reaching 255 km/h at higways often worse than the Swedish and with much heavier traffic I got problems in Sweden, where the limit is 110 km/h.

I passed a white Volvo 940 at "some" km/h above 110 km/h on an empty, straight highway just north of Linköping. This was the only car I overtook on a distance of over 80 km because there was no traffic at all because it was a Saturday at midnight. At the town of Norrköping I noticed a marked police vehicle at one exit and it started following me. I was driving 110 km/h. Then he stopped me for no obvious reason to me. I pulled over and went out the car with my (soon to be gone) license in my hand. Then this white Volvo turned up and a not so friendly police officer said "I have been driving XXX km/h since Linköping!. I haven't had the slightest chance to keep up with you! How f***ing fast have you've been driving?"

Damn. Bad luck! This Volvo was really suspicious, tinted windows, white, everything. Of course it was an unmarked police car. But I wasn't on full alert, was a bit bored of driving after 5000 km in five days. I didn't notice that he tried to follow me either. He didn't use his Kojak Blue light either.

I was questioned in the marked police car by two much friendlier police officers who said, "Nice M3, which model year?" and I told them that I've been down in Germany with some other cars. Then they said "Did we miss those M5 or will they pass here?"

A look at www.speedtrap.com says this about Norrköping;

DESCRIPTION : Take it easy if you drive E4 towards Norrkoeping! I've been caught there twice and I tell you the cops in Norrkoeping is the worst in Sweden.

End of story. I'll get my license back preliminary after five months. I'll guess I'll buy myself a BMW Bike. Anyway it was a nice trip.

Read the police report file in Swedish below:

Here I'm being pulled over on an empty highway. The picture to the right is on a deregulated M5, not on a testbench but on Autobahn in Germany. 310 km/h indicated, 296 km/h real speed.
