The visit to BMW M

After the visit to Alpina we took the Autobahn to Munich. We ended the nice evening at a Bierkeller taking a beer (well, not only one...). I can say that the Munich bier is a reason enough to go to Munich! Well it had been a hectic day, driving an F355 was among the subject of discussion over some beers and whether the Ferrari 550 Maranello is well designed or just ugly...
Here is from the left Stefan, me and Roland with his estorilblue BMW M Roadster(321 HP) with bicolour leather. Roland were going to show us BMW M after we discussed about the cars for a while. Roland have had a B10 BiTurbo for a couple of months and were thinking of buying a used one because he thought it was so fun.

Here is a small collection of cars Roland have had. The Lamborghini Diablo is unfortunately sold, but he still owns the M Roadster and M3 6 speed with 321 HP. On both cars he have a sport exhaust that's a little bit noisy, 120 dB(A). You can visit his site by clicking on his name to the right of the picture above. Roland is about selling his M3 so if you're interested give him a mail.

The car after the M3 will probably be a Porsche 911 Turbo S (993 BiTurbo S) with 450 HP which doesn't sounds too wrong for me either...

Among the subject we discussed where whether Alpina cars are getting more and more comfort oriented than sport oriented. This is shown for example with the B3 3,2 vs the M3, the B10 V8 versus the new M5. But Alpina also has this exclusive touch about their cars which BMW M cars lacks. I guess Alpina never would introduce aluminium panels in their cars as on the new M5.

Roland told us when he had the Alpina B6 3,5 he it was very few cars that would outrun him. But today Alpina 3-series are slower than the M3. Back in the late 80´s the B6 3,5 had 254 HP and the M3 only 195 so the Alpina was much faster. But as i told you, that have changed today.

As I wrote earlier the production of the 1998 M5 haven´t started yet. The models featured here are pre-production models.

So here it is! The new M5. Well, the colour is a matter of personal taste :) Here you see the new chrome wheels, M frontspoiler, M rearspoiler, black instead of chrome and clear indicators.

Here is the impressive front of the M5. We couldn't test-drive any because they are pre production models and the manufacturing will start in October. So that was a little disappointment, but I drove a F355 instead, so personally I'm happy. Notice the new ellipsoid fog lights in the front spoiler. (Doesn't it looks like BMW copied Volvo 850 Turbo design of fog lights there? Hmmm, maybe just a Swedish strange thought...)

The rear-view of the new M5 is impressive. This model hasn´t got the M5 emblem, but you hardly have a problem notice that it's an M5 with it's massive four exhaust pipes.

This is a "spy photo" of a bright red M5. I doubt it exist as colour for the ordinary 5 series range? Seems like a BMW Individual colour. Notice the two black dots just beneath the number plate on the bumper. They don't exist on the blue M5 above. So this M5 must be equipped with PDC, Park Distance Control, a couple of helpful sensors helping you with parking the car.
The two M3 to the right are for "BMW Fahrer Training" for owners of BMW M3 to learn how to use their M3 to the limit.
