This US Highway
Trooper must be the luckiest officer, maybe even luckier than the Munich Police
who got the last Euro M3 for patrolling Autobahn...
Do any of you readers recognize this unusal
M5 Highway Patrol Car? Where in the US is it located? Still in duty?
I received some answers for my question:
This car
is driven by "Officer Dave" in the state of South Carolina. If you look
at the emblem on the door, the background is the state of S.C. This car
was given to the patrol by BMW
as a goodwill gesture at the upcoming opening
of the Spartenburg S.C. BMW
manufacturing plant. There was an article
in the BMW Car Club of Americas'
monthly magazine (Roundel) pertaining to just
this subject. Officer Dave also
displays this car at different Patrol functions
and also has it on hand for
BMW NA should they want to show it off at the
plant. Feel free to research my
answer and get with me if I am wrong....I'm
not.
You have probably
already received many responses on this, but just in case,
here's mine. The M5 patrol car pictured
on your site is actually from South
Carolina. When BMW initially "closed the
deal" to build the factory in
South Carolina, this vehicle (along with 2 or
3 others) was a gift from BMW
to South Carolina. I've actually had the
opportunity to sit in this car
(not under arrest!) and it is quite interesting.
All the standard
fittiments are included on the car, but the
sunroof doesn't work due to the
light bar. This vehicle has long since
been retired and has been in both
the South Carolina State Museum, and the BMW
Museum (forget the name) in
Spartanburg, SC.
So my follow-up question is; Have any of you quys been pulled over by it? The German readers are also welcome contribute something about the 321 HP Police M3. So as you see we have a litttle "Police Theme" spinoff here...
